Microlearning: New Approaches To A More Effective Higher Education ; : 27-41, 2022.
Article in English | Scopus | ID: covidwho-20238317

ABSTRACT

The article provides an overview of research sources on microlearning. Micro-learning is a modern educational trend, as the development of digital technologies and limitations, in particular caused by COVID-19, change the ways of effective learning and teaching. Emphasis is placed on the terms used to describe microlearning. Furthermore, various methods of bibliometric analysis and mapping of the science were used for the presentation. Furthermore, the dynamics of the publication activity regarding the query "microlearning” in the databases Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection for the period 2010–2021 are determined. Based on selected publications with the help of VOSviewer, the terminological maps are constructed and their main points of intersection are revealed. The results of the study revealed a stable exploratory and scientific interest in the application and effective implementation of microlearning as an interdisciplinary study. Clear visualization of the obtained data made it possible to identify the main areas of research in micro-learning in the fields of technical, engineering and educational sciences. Moreover, microlearning as an educational technology is the least favorable term represented in the publication field, which can be considered as a promising area of further research. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

PurposeRecognising the literature of a field is vital for advancement in that field. Yet, there has not been a systematic analysis of recent publications published in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights (JHTI). Therefore, this research aims to do a bibliometric analysis of articles published in JHTI during the previous five years.Design/methodology/approachThis study used bibliometric techniques and indicators to analyse JHTI publications from 2018 to 2022. The data utilised in the study were obtained from Scopus and subsequently subjected to analysis through the Bibliometrix software.FindingsThe findings show good collaboration between the production components (country, institution and author) in JHTI. The co-occurrence analysis of keywords comprises five clusters;the co-citation analysis comprises six;and a group of articles connected with psychological aspects and areas such as motivation, attitude, customer engagement, place attachment and behavioural intention was the most remarkable cluster. Sharing economy, destination marketing, destination image and some, to an extent, social media and revenue management are just a few of the niche themes that have the potential to come up.Research limitations/implicationsThis study will be helpful as a roadmap for researchers in different fields who are interested in such studies, as well as for editorial board members and those who work in JHTI.Practical implicationsScholars and practitioners may benefit the most from this research by obtaining insight into the development of JHTI's research and the areas of the hospitality and tourism industries that need more study.Originality/valueThe current study is both necessary and valuable because it is the first to provide insight into the effectiveness and intellectual framework of the hospitality and tourism literature selected by the JHTI.

ABSTRACT

Thanks to the advances in public health and medical sciences, the increasing of elderly has become a structural phenomenon in Europe and the rest of the World. This demographic age shift highlighted severe doubts about the sustainability of healthcare systems which see adult people as a burden rather than, if they are healthy and active, as an advantage for a country's economic development. Safeguarding older people from infections is crucial, but supporting them during health emergencies is even more critical. Older adults, for example, became more at risk of death during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the balance previously achieved between age-related diseases and healthy quality of life went under higher pressure. As a result, the potential impact of ageing on healthcare expenditure is increasingly debated. Starting from this background, we propose a bibliometric study based on word embedding techniques to identify the drivers that could influence this relationship and track their evolution in the health policy debate. The main findings of our research underline that given the upward impact on the growth in health spending due to population ageing, policies oriented to improve their access to health services through new technologies could better meet the elderly needs, moderating the cost growth. Protecting the health of older adults represents, in fact, a challenge for governments as well as proof of the quality of health systems management, especially during severe outbreaks such as the one caused by the coronavirus.

ABSTRACT

Purpose - The study aims to explore a retrospective overview of the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management, a prestigious international journal in the discipline. It also analyses the bibliometric information of its publications between 2011 and 2021 in terms of authors, countries, documents, themes, topics and sources.Design/methodology/approach - The performance analysis and science mapping were conducted using the data from Scopus between 2011 and 2021. The bibliometric information of 301 publications was visualised through the analysis types, such as co-authorship, co-citation and bibliographic coupling, through the VOSviewer software programme.Findings - The main finding is that the journal has recently improved in several areas (e.g. its productivity and visibility, citations, index scores and international collaborations). Although financial aspects such as accounting and accountability, financial management and public budgeting maintained their importance during the analysing period, some other features were revealed as new research themes. However, there are some research gaps regarding sustainable development goals, climate change and other matters, and the solutions for them through public fiscal policies.Research limitations/implications - The analyses are primarily backwards oriented by their very nature. Although they were excellent at portraying the past, the findings provided limited information about subjects that would be hot topics in future. The study has some limitations. The information on publications was collected from the Scopus database. However, bibliometric analyses were conducted from 2011 to 2021 as its data on Scopus did not cover before 2011. Second, the data are dynamic over time and may contain various changes in the future. Therefore, the bibliometric analysis may be repeated by including new studies of JPBAFM in the following years.Social implications - A performance analysing that the editorial team could benefit from in order to monitor the productivity of JPBAFM, one of the popular and favoured journals in the discipline, was conducted in this paper. The editorial team may also find ideas for the intellectual development of the journal as a result of mapping the performance of the publications.Originality/value - The bibliographic analysis of the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management has yet to be conducted. The study presents comprehensive findings on the performance and bibliometric analysis of the journal to guide authors and readers.

ABSTRACT

This chapter applies science mapping analysis (SciMat) and literature review as research methods to examine literature about higher education institutions (HEIs) during the Covid-19 pandemic. User acceptance, satisfaction, and perception are identified as the most productive research themes in the sample of 561 Web of Science (WoS) indexed articles about HEIs during the pandemic. The literature review of the top themes reveals that user acceptance is influenced by the perceived usefulness of online learning and ease of using online tools. The level of satisfaction among students in online learning is relatively high and linked with the perceived benefits of online courses. Conditions influencing user acceptance and perceived satisfaction differ between students and lecturers. Technology-related themes appeared to be relatively under-researched as standalone themes, but technological aspects turned out to be important components of the most prolific research themes identified. © 2023 by Radoslaw Malik and Michal Siczek.

ABSTRACT

As China's position in the global economy has gradually improved, the importance of debates on the role of the renminbi in the international monetary system has significantly increased. This paper uses bibliometric methods—Bibliometrix R-package and its web-based graphical interface Biblioshiny—applied to data imported from Web of Science and Scopus to investigate and synthesize the renminbi literature published in English between 1995 and 2021. Science mapping offers a visual representation of different networks and clusters of authors' keywords. The performance analysis, a quantitative evaluation of the most published sources, authors and papers on renminbi internationalization in the last 25 years, shows that the interest on the topic has grown, particularly after 2009 and 2016, respectively. There is also a high degree of concentration in the field, considering that out of the 802 analyzed papers, published in 393 sources, five authors and four journals had the highest impact. The content analysis identifies the main directions in the renminbi internationalization literature and future research questions to further explore this subject. The COVID-19 pandemic and post-Ukraine war era could generate a deeper reform of the international monetary system, in which the Chinese currency will strengthen its global position alongside the US dollar and the euro. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Interpretive structural modeling (ISM) is widely used to understand the complex connections between different components. This study presents a bibliometric overview of ISM research, with a focus on its linkages to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the impact of COVID-19. The study analyzed 1988 publications on ISM published between 2012 and 2021, of which 1202 were directly mapped to the SDGs and 59 were related to COVID-19. The study identified key authors, institutions, countries, and journals involved in the research and their linkages to the SDGs. The results showed that ISM research is strongly linked to SDG 12 (on responsible consumption and production) and SDG 9 (on industry, innovation, and infrastructure). We also identified influential SDGs on the basis of centrality measures such as betweenness and eigenvector. The top four countries contributing to ISM publications were India, China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The most frequently cited journals were Benchmarking: An International Journal, Sustainability, the Journal of Modelling in Management, and the Journal of Cleaner Production. Four main clusters were identified in the ISM research, including (1) integration with AHP and fuzzy logic for promoting sustainability alignment, (2) ISM-based strategy development for various stakeholders, (3) ISM-based decision-making in various fields, and (4) ISM-based risk evaluation. For the first time, studies that used the ISM approach to understand the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 were identified, and their key findings were discussed. The study also identified several emerging topics for future ISM research, such as blockchain and IoT, environmental management systems, climate change adaptation, smart cities, and humanitarian logistics and their potential linkages to the SDGs.

ABSTRACT

Overlay maps of science are global base maps over which subsets of publications can be projected. Such maps can be used to monitor, explore, and study research through its publication output. Most maps of science, including overlay maps, are flat in the sense that they visualize research fields at one single level. Such maps generally fail to provide both overview and detail about the research being analyzed. The aim of this study is to improve overlay maps of science to provide both features in a single visualization. I created a map based on a hierarchical classification of publications, including broad disciplines for overview and more granular levels to incorporate detailed information. The classification was obtained by clustering articles in a citation network of about 17 million publication records in PubMed from 1995 onwards. The map emphasizes the hierarchical structure of the classification by visualizing both disciplines and the underlying specialties. To show how the visualization methodology can help getting both an overview of research and detailed information about its topical structure, I studied two cases: coronavirus/Covid-19 research and the university alliance called Stockholm Trio. © 2022 Peter Sjögårde. ABSTRACT

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic had an enormous impact on the global economy and healthcare. Pharmacists were vital members of the healthcare system, and they participated in various strategies to reduce the effect of the pandemic. Numerous papers were published discussing their roles during the pandemic. Bibliometric analysis was used to measure the impact of publications on this topic and assessed them qualitatively and quantitatively over a specific time. Objective: Evaluate published literature pertaining to the roles of pharmacists and pharmacy services during the pandemic and identify gaps. Methods: An electronic search was conducted on PubMed database using a specific query. Eligible publications were published in English between January 2020 and January 2022 and discussed the role of pharmacists, pharmacies, and pharmacy departments during the pandemic. Clinical trials, studies on pharmacy education/training, and conference abstracts were excluded. Results: Of 954 records retrieved, 338 (35.4%) from 67 countries were included. Most papers (n = 113; 33.4%) were from the community pharmacy sector, followed by the clinical pharmacy sector (n = 89; 26.3%). Sixty-one (18%) papers were multinational, mostly involving two countries. The average number of citations of the included papers was 6 times (range 0-89). The most common MeSH terms were 'humans', 'hospitals', and 'telemedicine', where the former frequently co-appeared with the terms 'COVID-19' and 'pharmacists.' Conclusions: Results from this study illustrate the innovative and proactive strategies developed by pharmacists during the pandemic. Pharmacists from around the world are encouraged to share their experiences for stronger healthcare systems to counter future pandemics and environmental disasters.

ABSTRACT

In research literature, the terms "small-scale-agriculture" and "smallholder-agriculture" (farming) cannot be clearly distinguished and are frequently used synonymously. Taking terminology of both versions, we examine relationships between textual and bibliographic elements, identify clusters of studies and research accents, as well as developments in time. Using information science methods (big data, bibliometrics/scientometrics, visualization program Vosviewer) in the citation database Scopus, we design Boolean search statement/query (emphasis on proximity operators), analyse terms in titles and s of articles, evaluate author networks (countries, co-authorship), keywords, and links between journals. Authors from developed and developing countries collaborate widely, with the US having the most co-authored articles, Germany having the most diverse current network, and Kenya being the strongest contributor among developing countries. Most articles are published by authors from Africa. There are also two smaller clusters representing Asia and the Americas. Three clusters of research priorities are evident: 1) crop production (current focus: crop yield), 2) livestock production (current focus: diseases), and 3) environmental issues, vulnerability to climate change, sustainability, and socio-economic themes. Future trends (hot topics and research fronts) will increasingly focus on adaptation strategies, food security, gender (women), or human health (at the time of submission, there were already dozens of papers on Covid 19 and smallholder farmers). Many topics that used to be most covered by Agricultural and Biological Sciences (Scopus Subject Area) are now increasingly covered in Social Sciences journals, becoming a complex research field on its own, which should translate into support and funding for such studies.

ABSTRACT

In response to global efforts to control and exterminate infectious diseases, this study aims to provide insight into the productivity of remdesivir research and highlight future directions. To achieve this, there is a need to summarize and curate evidence from the literature. As a result, this study carried out comprehensive scientific research to detect trends in published articles related to remdesivir using a bibliometric analysis. Keywords associated with remdesivir were used to access pertinent published articles using the Scopus database. A total of 5321 research documents were retrieved, primarily as novel research articles (n = 2440; 46%). The number of publications increased exponentially from 2020 up to the present. The papers published by the top 12 institutions focusing on remdesivir accounted for 25.69% of the overall number of articles. The USA ranked as the most productive country, with 906 documents (37.1%), equivalent to one-third of the global publications in this field. The most productive institution was Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai, in the USA (103 publications). The New England Journal of Medicine was the most cited, with an h-index of 13. The publication of research on remdesivir has gained momentum in the past year. The importance of remdesivir suggests that it needs continued research to help global health organizations detect areas requiring instant action to implement suitable measures. Furthermore, this study offers evolving hotspots and valuable insights into the scientific advances in this field and provides scaling-up analysis and evidence diffusion on remdesivir.

ABSTRACT

Emotions are an inextricable part of human existence that must be managed. As a result, researchers from a variety of disciplines (health, psychology, management, and social science) have investigated a wide-ranging application of emotional intelligence (EI). In this study, using HistCite, BibExcel, and CiteSpace software, a total of 1,026 articles published on EI in the field of business and management from 2002 to 2022 were evaluated for performance analysis and co-citation analysis. Performance analysis results showed that the United States alone published about 38% of all publications. Institutes in Australia topped the list of institutions with the most articles published on EI. Co-citation analysis results found that in the first decade (2002–2012), major concepts/constructs studied with EI were transformational leadership, organization behaviour, cultural intelligence, exploring leadership capability, personal wisdom, team performance, subordinate perception, employee creativity and leadership competencies whereas in the second decade (2012–2022), major themes studied were and being studied are social intelligence competencies, job satisfaction, holistic perspective, meta-analytic review and entrepreneurial intention. Additionally, three emerging research hotspots (mindfulness, COVID-19 and artificial intelligence) that have been studied with EI but not identified by bibliometric techniques have also been discussed. Finally, this study offers useful theoretical and practical implications, as well as key future recommendations. © 2022 Management Development Institute.

ABSTRACT

With the Online Emergency Remote Teaching (OERT) practices emerged during the outbreak of the pandemic, teachers' digital competence (TDC) has gained growing attention in educational ICT research realm. In view of this context, the present review study aimed at illuminating the current state of TDCs literature by identifying the volume, growth trajectory, geographical distribution of TDC research. It also aimed at mapping highly influential TDC scholars, documents, and journals. Retrieved from the educational research category in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science (WoS) core collection database, the metadata of 406 articles were analyzed by employing bibliometric performance and science mapping techniques in VOSwiever 1.6. The timeframe for the study was the last two decades (from 2002 to 2021). Findings illustrated that there has been a growing increase in the number of studies focusing on TDCs. This increase is more evident in the Covid-19 pandemic period, particularly in the last two years. More specifically, more than half of all studies were published in the years 2020 and 2021. Findings also illustrated that there is a dominance of Spanish scholars and organizations in TDC research since 2 out of every 3 studies were carried out by researchers affiliated to Spanish Universities. Additionally, co-citation analysis purported the intellectual structure of TDC knowledge base by identifying the most influential authors and documents. Finally, co-occurrence analysis revealed the concept analysis topical foci of TDC research. These topics are concentrated on "teachers' digital competence", "higher education studies", teacher training programs", and "ICT in education". As a result, based on the findings of the study some recommendations were proposed that will contribute into the ICT research community by reflecting the intellectual structure of existing TDC research, thus highlighting the future research direction.

ABSTRACT

The explosive growth and online media usage have transformed the communication landscape globally. Social media platforms have become a thriving ground for online exploitation and Cyberbullying, a high priority challenge in many countries (Gottschalk, 2022). Our study aims to provide a bibliometric overview of Cyberbullying research between 2010 and 2021, including a new analysis through the lens of sustainable development and the impact of COVID-19. We introduce altmetrics to assess the social media attention of publications. Analysis of 7045 publications, of which 1149 publications are directly aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and 123 publications related to COVID-19 are presented. Science mapping of countries and journals, prolific authors, and institutions, along with gender-related contributions, are captured in this study. Computers in Human Behavior is the most prolific journal in terms of publications and citations. The top three SDG are SDG16 peace, justice, and strong institutions, SDG4 Quality education, and SDG3 Good health and well-being. Within each SDG, we find focussed studies on the themes relating to psychological impact, prior exposure to violence, inequality and gender biases, lack of awareness and need for education, and social support and their implications for sustainable development. Further, studies on COVID-19 impact revealed a definitive increase in occurrences of Cyberbullying stemming from concurrent infodemics and confinement-induced digital addiction. Asian countries contributed to over 20% of the studies during the pandemic. We offer suggestions for future studies on shifting focus on populous developing economies, longitudinal studies of interventions, and a critical need to enhance technologies for auto-detection in multilingual contexts.

ABSTRACT

Machine learning, a rapidly evolving field of data analysis, has now become an integral part of life science research. It has been widely utilized for exploring the information encoded by the genome and beyond the genome. In this study, we surveyed the trends of scientific actors and the conceptual structure of machine learning implementation in biomedical research through the published literature retrieved from the PubMed search engine. A longitudinal cohort bibliographic coupling was executed by employing the VOS viewer tool for 4-time periods, 1964–2010, 2011–2015, 2016–2018, and 2019–2020. Scientific actors of machine learning research include 42,629 unique authors, 27,364 organizations with a mean collaboration index of 3.9. Coword analysis revealed that the conceptual framework of machine learning applications in life sciences moved from simple pattern searching to omic science and medical imaging analytic approaches and from Bayes’ theorem to deep learning algorithms. It is observed that presently machine learning is extensively utilized in investigating emerging situations like coronavirus disease. To epitomize, researchers capitalized on advancements in machine learning tools and high-throughput technologies to delve into the intricate and evolving concepts of biology and medicine. © 2022 Vanaja and Yella.

ABSTRACT

Purpose>Numerous exploratory, conceptual and empirical enquiries on financial behaviour and literacy have been conducted in the areas of economics, finance, business and management. However, no attempt was made to present a comprehensive science mapping of the area so far. Hence, the study intends to elicit the trend in the research field through synthesis of knowledge structures.Design/methodology/approach>Bibliometric analysis in the field of financial literacy and financial behaviour was performed on a sample of 1,138 documents based on a scientific search strategy run on the Web of Science database for the period 1985–2020. Biblioshiny, which is a web-based application included in Bibliometrix package developed in R-language (Ariaa and Cuccurullo, 2017), was used for the study. With the help of automated workflow in the software, prominent journals, authors, countries, articles, themes were identified;and citation, co-citation and social network analysis were conducted.Findings>Results show that the themes of financial literacy and financial behaviour have evolved over a period of time as an interdisciplinary field. In the initial stages, researchers focused on demographic and socio-economic determinants, but gradually the field embraced topics like behavioural and psychological constructs influencing financial behaviour. Along with conceptual structure, this research reveals the intellectual and social structure of the domain. This study provides important insights on areas that need further investigation.Research limitations/implications>The current research is a bibliometric analysis and hence limitations related to such studies are applicable. For future researchers to derive a strong conceptual framework, a systematic review of literature would be helpful. Science mapping for this study is limited to the Web of Science database owing to its wider coverage of good quality journals, structured formats which are compatible with the Bibliometrix software.Practical implications>The current study provides important insights on financial literacy and financial behaviour and their inter-linkages. It highlights the most addressed issues in the area and leads towards the prospective areas for research. It informs the future researchers about the emergent themes, contexts and possibilities of collaborations in this area by revealing social and intellectual structure of the domain.Social implications>The paper can provide important insights for policy formulation in the areas of financial education and literacy.Originality/value>There has been lot of conceptual and empirical work done in the past, across countries, spanning the disciplines such as economics, finance, psychology and consumer behaviour. A major contribution of this study is that it consolidates fragmented literature in the area, highlights significant sources, authors and documents, while exploring the relation between financial literacy and financial behaviour.
